Feature story: A
story on Chenonceau. By Carolyn from Las Vegas
Known as ‘Château de Femmes’ or ‘the castle of six ladies’
for the succession of powerful French noblewomen of Chenonceau; who each made an
impact on the castle, forming it into the lovely château we see today. This
enchanting castle may be smaller in comparison to others, but what it lacks in
size it makes up in charm. "This truly is a magnificent place, deeply rich
with history, and is certainly one of... the most romantic Châteaus in Loire
Valley." Definitely "worth taking the time to visit."

Visits: Sue
and Jim Maxwell from Revenwood Castle visited Ruthin Catle in England.
Sue and Jim Maxwell from Revenwood
castles visited Ruthin Catles in England. They traveled with us last year
on our Great Castles Tour Augustd 31st. departure and send us this note on
Ruthin Castles which will be included on our Best of Britain and Ireland Tour.
Our group will be staying at this hotel.
Just a note to tell you that Jim and I really enjoyed our two-night stay at
Ruthin Castle. Still looks like its Victorian incarnation, with mostly original
furniture--Victorian and earlier. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the
rooms are quite elegant in an old-fashioned way. Bathrooms were great with
really good shower. Food was more than adequate. It's now a Best
Western hotel, but we've found the Best Westerns in Britain usually very good
and most often in interesting old buildings.
We also enjoyed walks around the medieval town of Ruthin where all streets lead
upward to the top of the hill with Ruthin Castle on one side and St. Peter's
church on the other. Some very nice shops, too.
Wish we could join you, but we expect to be very busy this summer.
Sincerely,
Sue and Jim Maxwell

Dreaming of Castles By Toni
Some of the castles in America are big and some are small, but
regardless of their size they all have a magical presence upon entering. Just to
envision them in their current day, bustling with activity, oh, to be a fly on
the wall! Sadly, that is not possible, so a bit of imagination is necessary to
be transported back in time, to absorb the magnificence of these elegant
homes. This trip will take us to Atlanta, Georgia to explore Swan House
the "empty nest retirement home" of Edward and Emily Inman who at the
ages of 46 moved into their then, unnamed home in 1928. An heir to a cotton
brokerage fortune, Mr. Inman was an Atlanta businessman with a wife and two
sons, Hugh and Edward.
